Reading is one of the four targeted skills that has a great function in opening up the horizon
of knowledge to broader and improving people’s knowledge. Students found some
difficulties when reading activities. The problem is due to their lack of reading
comprehension because students are passive and often feel bored during reading activities.
Therefore, the researcher decided to used jigsaw technique to improve students reading
comprehension. This research aims to make students at SMP Negeri 5 Kintamani
motivated, so they can improve their learning outcomes. This research used the Classroom
Action Research (CAR) method which consisted of four stages: planning, action,
observation, and reflection. The technique of data collection in this research were tests,
interviews, and observation. The finding showed that the implementation of the jigsaw
technique was able to improve students' reading comprehension. This is indicated by the
results of the post-test scores that have exceeded the KKM, and 7 students who have the
lowest score during the pre-test can achieve an increase in score, 74 is the minimum score
that must be achieved by students, and the percentage of problems encountered increases
by more than 10%.
