SONG LYRICS IN LOOSE CHANGE ALBUM

Language was used to expressed some emotion or feelings ideas and imagination.
People believe there were feelings in songs. For example, if you want to expressed
your loved for someone, express it in a song lyrics could reach many people. This
research aims to find the kind and meanings of the figurative expressions.
Researched apply on content analysis to describe and categorize words that could
be considered as figurative language in Ed Sheeran song lyrics in the Loose Change
Album. In this study, the writer used visual analysis and then applied the following
steps : download song lyrics from the google or youtube, Read song lyrics, Find
figurative language in song lyrics, there were 26 researchers try to find words or
sentences that contained figurative language and also meanings. The types of
figurative language included in this study were simile, metaphor, personification,
irony, allusion, metonymy, symbol and hyperbole. In addition, the author classified
and recorded the data based on the various types of figurative language used in the
analysis. The study has two aims, based on the two difficulties that will be examined
: (1) to find out the kinds of figurative language found in Selected Ed Sheeran’s
Loose Change album song lyrics, (2) to find out the meanings of the figurative
expressions found in Selected Ed Sheeran’s Loose Change album song lyrics. In
this study, the writer used theory by Kennedy’s (1979) that was also found in
Murtadho and Amelia (2022), Siallagan et al. (2017), Jie (2021), Muhammad et al.
(2021), Nursolihat and Kareviati (2020), Dewi et al. (2020), Fajrin and Parmawati
(2021), Puspitorini and Hamdani (2021), Alfiyani (2021), Sutrisno and Lestari
(2021), Ambalegin and Tomi Arianto (2020), Lembu et al. (2022), Ariska et al.
(2021) Atmaja (2022), Syafitri and Marlinton (2018) theory to analyze the kinds of
figurative language found in Selected Ed Sheeran’s Loose Change album song
lyrics. The study revealed that there were 49 utterances containing figurative
language used in Ed Sheeran’s songs. The used of metaphor was mostly found in
each of his songs (18 sentences), followed by personification (14 sentences), simile
(10 sentences), hyperbole (7 sentences), metonymy ,irony, allusion and symbol.
Furthermore, the meanings of the figurative expressions were found in each song
lyrics. It said that each kind of figurative language employed in an Ed Sheeran’s
song had a certain meaning that could be evaluated in relation to the song's context.
