This study aims to investigate the statistical difference on students’ writing quality
between students who were given direct written corrective feedback and students
who were given indirect written corrective feedback at eighth grade students of

SMP Negeri 3 Sukawati. This study conducted quasi experimental of non-
equivalent control group design. Students of eighth grade in SMP Negeri 3

Sukawati were the population of this study. Seventy six students were divided into
two groups, which is 38 students from VIII.A as experimental group and 38
students from VIII.E as control group. The treatment in the experimental group
was given direct written corrective feedback and control group was given indirect
written corrective feedback. The writing test was used as the research instrument
to conduct pre-test and post-test. Data collection procedures that were applied in
this study were pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The data result of this study was
analysed by using independent sample t-test. Based on the calculation with the
significance level p = 0.05 (5%), it showed that t (74) = 2.335, p-value = .022 < p
= 0.05. The result of this study indicated that there was a statistically significant
difference in students’ writing quality between students who were given direct
written corrective feedback and students who were given indirect written
corrective feedback at eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Sukawati. It means
that direct written corrective feedback was effective to be used in writing of
recount text..
