THE TYPOLOGY OF ILLOCUTIONARY ACT FOUND IN THE
UTTERANCES OF THE MAIN CHARACTER IN THE MOVIE

SERIES 7 OF HARRY POTTER

A cinematic analysis constituted the initial research. This research aimed to
analyze the illocutionary style adopted by Daniel Radcliffe throughout the
Harry Potter movie series. The researcher was interested in undertaking a
study titled "The Typology of Illocutionary Act Found in the Utterances of the
Main Character in the Movie Series 7 of Harry Potter". The research design of
this study was Descriptive Research Design. The object of this research was
coming from the utterances of Daniel Radcliffe as Harry which had taken as
type illocutionary acts. Data collection divided into 3 steps, which were;
Observation, Note Taking, and Document Analysis. Followed by data analysis
which consist of Data processing be the first step and data displaying was
next, then the last was drawing conclusion. According to the study's findings,
298 utterances had been identified using document analysis in the movie series
Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part II. The data were still unprocessed,
and following the data processing steps, the number of utterances had been
decreased to 191 utterances (fix data). The outcome had shown as follows:
Assertives 85 utterances in which the function was asserting, Directives 66
utterances covering the function of (asking, begging, inviting, ordering,
commanding, advising, and warning), Commissives 12 utterances covering the
function of (planning, offering, and declaring), Expressives 6 utterances
covering the feeling of (confuse, shock, amaze, grateful, and exhausted), lastly
was Declarations with 22 utterances covering the function of (declaring,
deciding, and canceling). The researcher came to the conclusion that Harry
Potter's statements in this series fell under all five categories of the
illocutionary act: assertives, directives, commissives, expressives, and
declarations. Since the majority of Harry's statements fell within this category,
Assertives were the initial position of type illocutionary deed. Harry's words
fell under the Directives and Declarations classifications, with Commissives
coming in second and Expressives coming in last. All of the statements
discovered in this study's analysis could potentially be used as a reflection on
society and the educational sector, such as in the asking and responding to
questions phases of classroom or campus instruction.
