Pasraman Shanti Niketan as a non-formal educational institution is a solution to
overcome obstacles that occur in the implementation of Hindu religious education,
namely Hindu elementary school-age children to gain religious knowledge and
introduction to local culture that changes their behavior for the better. The issues to
be discussed include: (1) What is the history of the establishment of the Shanti
Niketan Pasraman in Hindu Religion Learning in Jayapura City, Papua Province?,
(2) What is the Condition of the Shanti Niketan Pasraman in Hindu Religion
Learning in Jayapura City, Papua Province?, (3) What is the Impact of the Shanti
Niketan Pasraman in Learning Hindu Religion in Jayapura City, Papua Province?.
This study aims to find out (1) Community perceptions of the Existence of the
Shanti Niketan Pasraman in Jayapura City, (2) The contribution of learning
Hinduism to Pasraman in Jayapura City, (3) Obstacles and supports that exist in the
learning process of Hinduism at Pasraman in Jayapura City . The theory used to

solve problems in research is the theory of phenomenology from Maurice Merleu-
Ponty, and the theory of behavior from Gagae and Berlie. The subjects of this

research are people who are trusted as informants. Data collection methods are
observation, interviews, literature study and documentation. The collected data
were analyzed using qualitative data analysis methods with data reduction steps,
data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study show (1) The
history of the Shanti Niketan Pasraman in learning Hinduism in Jayapura City,
Papua Province, was founded around the 1970s and its founders are unknown. (2)
The condition of the Shanti Niketan Pasraman is quite adequate and also uses the
Sad Dharma strategy to instill Hindu religious values into the souls of the people
and students to strengthen sradha and devotion (3) The impact of the Shanti Niketan
Pasraman has a very important role for students and the community. Pasraman
unites the Hindu community in a strong community. Communities participating in
the pasraman can share experiences, knowledge, and religious activities
